GIS 5935 Mod 2.1 TINs & DEMs

Module 2.1 TINs & DEMs

In this module we worked with multiple sets of data in total roughly 10-12 DEMs, Point layers, TINs, Rasters in order to perform multiple tasks.

The first task was to drape an image over a terrain surface in a local scene in ArcGIS Pro. A common theme between each parts of the lab was to add the surface layer as the TIN model. In a local scene this is what reflects a 3 dimensional image in the map.

The next steps include working further with DEMs and TINs exaggerating the data to visualize more difference in elevations as well as working with slope, contours, surfaces, aspect, surface, etc. These are extremely important for determining the suitability of a terrain study area in many applications.

One of the last steps in the lab was comparing the contour lines from a TIN and DEM. I've opted to share a screenshot of the contour lines created from a DEM of a mountain range with a river. The symbology is only for differentiating elevation.
