Linked In Profile and Internship Update
Linked in Profile and Internship Update
In lieu of creating a LinkedIn profile I opted to create a mock profile that would represent what a public professional profile would include.
In word I selected a template that was very similar to LinkedIn's style (which I would later discard) and began creating a profile that contained and about me section, work history, educational history, and notable achievements in my career.
As a second part of this week's assignment I researched a professional GIS user group that could aid me in my career by connecting me to other GIS professionals, educational resources, and career opportunities. The group that I researched is called the Florida GPN group.
GPN is the Geospatial Professional Network, a 501(c)3 organization.
I followed a link to FLURISA which is the Florida Chapter of the URISA group tied to the greater GPN group which puts on webinars, conferences, and provides connections in the GIS industry for its members.
Internship Update
At this point in the internship I've accomplished more than I had expected. I started out with a plan to institute a new valve exercise schedule in our AMS called City Works Respond, but work needed to performed in GIS before I could get started.
I was able to create a new style of symbology for the water valves feature-class and chose to symbolize the valves by valve type.
Isolation
Transmission
Lateral main
The purpose of doing this was to allow for a differentiation of valve types in queries I'd later build in City Works. I've also cleaned up the valve attribute table by removing bad fields and adding new fields and domains for future data collection.
The important thing to remember when working with large tables of assets is every asset needs to have a unique identity. Or more commonly known as a UID field. This is the only way to perform data analysis at scale.
