Module 7
Module 7 Lab
In this last assignment we used google earth more than ArcGIS Pro and did some interesting things that I didn't know that Google Earth was capable of.
We did some symbolizing in ArcGIS Pro with a surface water layer that was in the lab data provided and I noticed that there were 886 polygon features that had Blank Descriptions.
After doing a little bit of investigation into these un-labeled features I noticed that they all would qualify as wetlands or marshes. After that I decided to relabel them as "Marsh, bog, wetlands" using the calculate fields function.
Adding the legend image file was a bit of a hassle until I figured out that when you are in the properties window is the window to make physical edits and changes to the layer you have the properties window pulled up on. (which is explained in the directions).
Using Google Earth was a bit interesting. I discovered a really useful feature when choosing the default place's view when adding a new place-marker. In the properties pane there is a tab labeled "view" you can use the current snapshot of the windows view and save over the previous if you aren't satisfied with the current one. I used this frequently before starting the recorded tour.
After finishing up deliverable 1 I started with the Guided tour and after two attempts I got a successful recording. My first recording did not finish out with an overview of south Florida and I did spend some time attempting to added a last view that the tour would zoom out too but ended up just scrapping the first recording.
I went back and added a place marker for south Florida overview and re-recorded the tour. This time it was successful.
I like the fact that google earth has the ability to record these features because I could very easily see how helpful of an application this would be for me as a GIS tech at a water utility company if. For instance if I wanted to create a recorded tour of all of our tank locations spread across our service area, this would be a great tool to present that.
