About me
Hello, my name is Dwight Fisher and I currently work as a GIS Technician for a water utility company in North West Florida.
I've been serving in my role as a technician managing the utility mapping segment of the company as well as taking on the administration of our newly adopted asset management program called CityWorks which has also been recently purchased by Esri corporation.
I joined the GIS certification program at UWF because I want to further my knowledge and skillset with GIS software in order to be bigger benefit to my company and colleagues. I started with a very entry level understanding of the program but quickly adapted to use Esri software thanks to my background in drafting in AutoCAD and surveying for a gas utility company in the area.
I hope to gain a more complete and comprehensive understanding of all the aspects that ArcGIS software programs has to offer. There are many projects that I've started and would like to start here at my workplace that would be of great use for years to come and I'm closer to completing those goals as a result of taking this course.
I currently have Applications, Special topics, and my internship to complete this fall which will allow me to graduate the course at the end of 2025.
I also hope to have a more competitive advantage in the workplace for future opportunities that may arise in my career going forward thanks to this GIS course offered by UWF.
During this course I've met many professional people that are just as excited by the technology that this generation of software offers by all of the opportunities that it makes possible across multiple fields of study. It's been great to see so many sides of Geographic Information Sciences and how many various ways is implemented in the real world, from humanitarian aid, governmental, private, archeology, environmental protection, etc..
